Visiting one of the Ukrainian State-Funded Refugee Camps

Last week we visited one of the Ukrainian state-funded refugee camps that is operating in the region of Transcarpathia, Ukraine, in the town of Tiszakeresztúr. People fleeing from the other side of Ukraine are being cared for in the building of a former state-school. The building used to be a special education school for children with disabilities. After handing over the aid, we had some time to talk with a Ukrainian couple who fled the siege of Bahmut.

Ukraine – Transcarpathia

We feel an overwhelming gratitude for the collaboration that has taken place for the sake of helping those from Ukraine. This collaboration has gone beyond local communities, friends, and acquaintances, it is a civic collaboration that extends beyond the church. Thank you.

Transporting food into Ukraine

Our colleagues are actively helping both the inland refugees as well as those that have crossed into Hungary and they need help in establishing a life there for a longer period of time.

In Transcarpathia, Ukraine the food storages get emptied very fast and we aim to fill many of them on a regular basis.

Transporting goods to Ukrainian villages

Large trucks are not able to cross from Hungary into Ukraine at smaller borders, only at the largest one in Zahony.

Our ministry therefore aims at helping those that can be reached quicker with our vans through these smaller crossings like Tiszabecs.

Twice a week transporting aid into Ukraine

On average we are taking aid into Ukraine twice a week, each time about 600 000 forint (approximately 1800-2000 Euro) worth of non-perishable food, clothing, goods and toiletries. We are aiding both the Hungarian and the Ukrainian communities.

In Transcarpathia there are many inland refugees from other areas of Ukraine fleeing from direct bombings.

We especially appreciate any non-perishable food donations as well as financial donations in order to be able to buy week-by-week what is necessary according to the ever-changing situation the war has created.

Temporary shelters in Tiszabecs

We are grateful

We feel an overwhelming gratitude for the collaboration that has taken place for the sake of helping those from Ukraine. This collaboration has gone beyond local communities, friends, and acquaintances, it is a civic collaboration that extends beyond the church. Thank you.

Financial aid

Many donations have come in for the temporary shelters that we had set up in Tiszabecs, for crisis management. We are especially thankful for your prayers and trust towards us.

Temporary shelters

In Tiszabecs we had temporary shelters set up for weeks at the church-house and in near-by locations. Pater Attila, a local Roma pastor has opened up his home. His hospitality helped many people in desperate need.

We have helped the needy with food, temporary shelters, clothing, legal aid and medicine.

Warehouses for food and clothing

Near the church-house we have established a warehouse, where we receive aid on an on-going basis in order to transport it to Ukraine.

Volunteers

It has been a special blessing to be able to work with volunteers from different locations in Hungary as well as with volunteers from other counties. We are grateful!

Refurbishing our infrastructure

Due to the fact that the war is going on longer than anybody could have foreseen we saw the need to provide better facilities for the ones fleeing warzones and difficulties. Therefore, we are working on getting container-houses, refurbishing and renovating our facilities in Tiszabecs. We hope to be able to open them up soon again.

Work in progress

We have expanded our work in Tiszabecs, have established a container-village and we are waiting on government approvals in order to be able to open up again.

Donations

Those that have been at our temporary shelters have been helped by the Hungarian Pentecostal Gypsy Mission, taken to their facilities.

In Tiszabecs we have our warehouses functioning, where we are receiving donations in order to take them to Ukraine with our twice-a-week donation transports.
